I am a seaman on board No.1 Fire Float, Hong-
kong Fire Brigade. About 10.P.M. on the 3rd August, while
lying at our buoy off Statue Wharf, I heard Police whist- le being sounded in the direction of Star Ferry Wharf.I looked through the binocular glasses and saw a man jump
from the Praya Wall into the Harbour. I eventually went in the dinghy, with two others of the crew to where the
man was in the water. I saw a second man in the water,
whom I later learned was Sergeant Field. I saw Sergt: Field attempting to keep the other man on the surface of the water. The Sergeant got on to a sampan still hold- ing on to the other man and attempted to get him on
board. The man whom Sergeant Field was attempting to
get on to the sampan struggled violently. Along with the other two I assisted in getting the man on board the sampan. The man still struggled and again got into the water. With our assistance Sergeant Field again got him on board the sampan and landed him at Statue Pier. The rescued man was there handed over to European Police in
uniform.
